Jayadeva’s Devotion
Once, Jayadeva Goswami, a great devotee, desired to offer his masterpiece, Gita Govinda, in the form of a garment to Jagannath Swami. The verses of Gita Govinda were to be woven into the fabric by weavers from the village of Kenduli, but they agreed to do so only if Jayadeva sang the verses while they worked.
The Divine Trance
One day, as Jayadeva was singing the verses of Gita Govinda, he entered a trance of divine ecstasy. The weavers, unable to continue without his singing, paused their work. Suddenly, an unknown sadhu arrived and said, “I am Jayadeva’s elder brother and I will sing Gita Govinda so you can continue your sacred work.”
The Mysterious Sadhu
The weavers resumed their weaving as the sadhu sang the verses. Shortly afterward, the sadhu departed, and Jayadeva awoke from his trance. The weavers narrated the entire incident to Jayadeva and showed him the line from Gita Govinda that they had woven after hearing it from the sadhu.
The Divine Revelation
Jayadeva, puzzled, replied, “How is that possible? I have no brothers. Besides, only Padmavati and I know Gita Govinda. Surely, Jagannath Swami Himself must have sung it to you.”
