Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, demonstrated His unparalleled humility and love for His devotees by performing the most humble services, especially for the Pandavas. One such instance was when Krishna, despite being the Lord of the universe, acted as a humble servant by washing the feet of each guest who attended a royal event hosted by Maharaj Yudhishthir. Krishna did this solely out of His deep love and respect for Yudhishthir, showing the world that true greatness lies in serving others with humility.
At other times, Krishna took on the role of a messenger for the Pandavas. During the tense and complex diplomatic negotiations between the Pandavas and the Kauravas before the great battle of Kurukshetra, Maharaj Yudhishthir would entrust Krishna with his messages to be delivered to Duryodhana, Dhritarashtra, and the other Kuru leaders. Acting as a messenger, or “postal peon” as Srila Prabhupada would say, was a very humble position. Yet, Krishna accepted this role without hesitation to show His unwavering commitment to His devotees.
Krishna’s love and friendship with Arjuna also exemplified His willingness to lower Himself for the pleasure of His devotees. Krishna and Arjuna shared a deep bond; they would often sit together, talk, laugh, eat, sleep, and travel together. Krishna behaved with Arjuna in such an intimate and friendly way that Arjuna, under the influence of yoga-maya, would sometimes forget that Krishna was the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This was all part of Krishna’s divine play to bring joy and comfort to His beloved devotee.
Lesson: This story teaches us about the profound humility and love of Krishna. It shows that true greatness is not in asserting superiority but in serving others with love and humility. Krishna, despite being the Supreme Lord, willingly lowers Himself to serve and please His devotees, setting an example of the highest form of devotion and humility.
Prayer: “O Krishna, please grant me the humility to serve others with love and devotion, just as You serve Your devotees. May I always remember that true greatness lies in selfless service, and may I strive to follow Your example in all aspects of my life.”
